Movie: The Fifth Element(1997) – My opinion

A 90's sci-fi movie made by Luc Besson. Best news ever.

Set in the future, a cab driver becomes the central figure in search for a cosmic weapon to keep pure evil at bay.

Bruce Willis(known for his work on The Sixth Sense, Armageddon, Die Hard) plays our cab driver and retired special forces major Korben Dallas. His life is nothing special and it looks like he may hate his job to. One day a girl, Leeloo(played by Milla Jovovich who is known for her work on Stone, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, Resident Evil), comes crashing through the roof of his cab who asks for his help. He decides, against his better judgment, to help her. She says that she is looking for a priest, Vito Cornelius(played by Ian Holm who is known for his work on Ratatouille, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Alien). Vito Cornelius learns that the 4 stones needed for the cosmic weapons, that they need right now since evil has returned, are hidden on a cruise-liner and soon sets off for it. Before heading there he learns that Korben Dallas had won tickets for the cruise on the radio so the priest pulls Korben Dallas back into this again. So now we got some badguy aliens wanting the stones on the cruise, we got Korben Dallas, we got the Leeloo and the priest Vito Cornelius. As if that wasn't enough we got another one wanting the stones. The one controlling the badguy aliens, Emanuel Zorg(played by Gary Oldman who is known for his work on Leon: The Professional, The Dark Knight, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). Let the action begin. Let me start of by saying that all of the cast delivers solid performances. This might be a weird thing to say but i think Gary Oldman might be the weakest of them. I don't know if it was his choice or the character was written like that but he has a accent that doesn't really work. Luckily you learn a lot about this character through his actions throughout the movie. Still though, probably the weakest character and the weakest performance. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good performance, but not as good as the rest in this movie. Ian Holms character Vito Cornelius is more of the guy with all the exposition. He keeps the audience informed about what they need to know. It can feel forced at some points but it works well enough. Milla Jovovich is simply delightful in her role. She plays the girl that is in the middle of this plot. She plays scared of everything she sees in the world since she haven't seen the world before, she plays angry when needed and she plays playful when she's mischievous. A fantastic character played in a fantastic way. Bruce Willis plays his character of Korben Dallas the same way he is know to play these kind of action-characters. It's nothing new but he does what he's suppose to do. Korben Dallas is a good enough character too. He has a kinda boring existences and you feel he gets into his element(pun intended) when the bullet starts flying. Good enough character with a solid performance from Bruce Willis. The vision of the future from the director(who is known for directing La Femme Nikita, Leon: The Proffesional, The Family) is also fantastic. One of my all time favorite futures(the look and feel of the world) in movies. Great directing through the whole thing.

This is a great movie and one of the 90's movies you really should watch. It's the classic tale of good versus evil put in a sci-fi setting. They also have a lot of great comedy put in this one. The biggest thing that splits audiences is one very hyper and high-pitched Chris Tucker(who is known for his work on Rush Hour, Silver Linings Playbook, Jackie Brown) in a supporting role as Ruby Rhod. Some find him really funny and one of the great things about this movie while others put him in the same category as Jar Jar Binks. You also get one hell of a beautiful concert-scene which is now very famous. It's beautifully shot with great singing and good editing to a fight-scene in progress. Like with the Chris Tucker character some people hate this scene but there are far more who love it, and in my opinion it's a really great scene. The effects still hold up, the action is exciting and Bruce Willis is good in his role as the hero who didn't ask for this.

If you want a great sci-fi action flick from the 90's to watch you can't go wrong with The Fifth Element. It's a little long with it's run-time of 126 minutes but it's still well worth the watch. This is the movie that really put Milla Jovovich on the map in my opinion. This is before she did all the Resident Evil movies and in this one she actually shows hint of real acting. Like with most sci-fi movies it has some moments that might feel a little weird or out of place. This is not a perfect movie but just let your mind go and enjoy the ride. I recommend it highly for people who like sci-fi.

TL;DR

A great sci-fi movie, a great action movie. Good performances all around. Milla Jovovich delivers a fantastic performance. A little long with a run-time of 126 minutes. This is one of those movies that you think of when you think of the 90's.

My question for you:
What do you think of this future, is it good or would you like something a little more gritty?
What did you think of Chris Tuckers character?

Movie: John Wick(2014) – My opinion

A hitman played by Keanu Reeves that is hunting gangsters, sign me up.

A retired hitman comes out of retirement to find the gangsters that took everything from him.

Keanu Reeves(who is known for his work on The Matrix, Speed, Point Break) plays John Wick, a retired hitman who just lost his wife. After the death of his wife he receives a gift from his wife that she arranged before she died. This is a puppy named Daisy. Naturally he forms a strong bond with the dog since it is the last thing his wife gave him. At a gas stations John Wick meets three Russian gang members. The leader of the three, Iosef(who is known for his work on Atonement, The Other Boleyn Girl, Game of Thrones(TV-Series)), wants to buy John Wicks car and John Wick refuses. The three gang members follow John Wick home, break in and steals his car. They also killed his dog, something John Wick doesn't take very well. After some investigating we learn that Iosef is the son of Viggo Tarasov(who is known for his work on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Girl in the Book, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(The original swedish one)) who is the head of the russian crime syndicate in New York and John Wicks former employer. Viggo Tarasov knows how dangerous John Wick is and are rightfully nervous. So now Viggo Tarasov is trying to protect his son Iosef with all of his power in the Russian syndicate and John Wick is on his way. John Wicks character doesn't have much of an arch but he doesn't need to have one. He's fully trained when we first meet him, people tell us how dangerous he is and what he can do. We know what he did before and since he's retired there's probably not much more for him too learn. Keanu Reeves is fantastic in his role as John Wick. Probably his best role to date in my mind. He delivers the sadness, the emotions and the action great. It's good to see Alfie Allen outside Game of Thrones too, too see if he can play more than just one part. I have too say that you really start to hate his character for the thing he does in this movie and that is a sign of a good written character and a good performance. He really gives of that Russian feeling too. Michael Nyqvist shows yet again that he's a fantastic actor in this movie. His character is really what you would expect from a Russian mob boss but it works. This man is making his name known as one of the best actors of today.

This movie is on my top 10 movies of 2014 list(please check it out if you haven't already) and with good reason. It's a straight up action movie where the action is front and center. When you make a movie where the action is so important you have to do it right or the movie falls flat(and without the camera-shake so you can see what is happening), and they do it so right in this one. The hand to hand fights are great, as it should since it's Keanu Reeves and the gun-play is fantastic. The ways John Wick uses his guns are beautiful. He uses something that is called the center axis relock shooting style and i have read that people who knew how that is done was very impressed. We also have a great supporting cast with people like Adrianne Palicki(who is known for her work on Red Dawn, Legion, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Dean Winters(who is known for his work on P.S. I Love You, Hellraiser: Hellseeker, 30 Rock(TV-Series)) and Willem Dafoe(who is known for his work on Platoon, The Boondock Saints, Spider-Man) who all are delivering in their roles.

If you want to see some real good action then you can't go wrong with watching John Wick. Having a run-time of about 100 minutes it's sure it doesn't overstay it's welcome. That's a big problem some of these straight forward action movies have, being to long with not enough content to fill the time with. Also seeing Keanu Reeves on top of his game is great. If you're wondering what to watch then pop this in, it's well worth it. They have also said that they want to make a trilogy of John Wick and the second one is announced and that makes me very excited.

TL;DR

Fantastic action-movie with a great supporting cast and a Keanu Reeves that nails his role. Great action and gun-play. Does not run to long. Good pacing. If you like action-movies then you should see this one.

My question for you:
What do you want from John Wick 2?
What is your favorite Keanu Reeves movie?

Movie: The World's End(2013) – My opinion

The last movie in the Cornetto-trilogy and i am so hyped. Can they make a third fantastic movie?

Five friends reunite to do a epic pub crawl that they did 20 years earlier and becomes humankind's only hope for survival.

Simon Pegg(known for his work on Star Trek, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Shaun of the Dead) plays Gary King, a middle-aged man who had his best years as a teenager with his friends. As a grown up he rounds up the old gang to make a try for The Golden Mile, a pub crawl they tried as teenagers. Gary King is a really well-written character. So much that you can probably tell which one of your friends is the Gary King of you group. He was the King in his teens and made nothing of himself. Nick Frost plays Andy Knight(played by Nick Frost who is known for his work on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Cuban Fury) plays again Simon Peggs friend here, but they have had some kind of falling out. Now this was one of the bigger surprises for me in this movie. He doesn't play one of his regular messy characters, he's more straight-cut. All business no nonsense kinda guy. Again you get this fantastic chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost that's really fun to watch. With them on the pub crawl is Peter Page(played by Eddie Marsan who is known for his work on The Illusionist, V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holms) who's more of a push-over character. We also got Steven Prince(played by Paddy Considine who is known for his work on Cinderella Man, The Bourne Ultimatium, Hot Fuzz) who has a little personal problem with Gary King and in some ways was hes rival in school. Lastly we got Oliver Chamberlain(played by Martin Freeman who is known for his work on The Hobbit Trilogy, Ali G InDaHouse, Sherlock(TV-Show))) who thinks he was some kind of player in school but is now a business man in a suit. All of these characters are written in a very good way. They all have their role within the movie to fill and they all fill it perfectly. After watching some of director Edgar Wrights(known for directing Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Hot Fuzz) movies this comes like no big surprise. Underway in the story we also meet Oliver Chamberlains sister Sam Chamberlain(played by Rosamund Pike who is known for her work on Jack Reacher, James Bond – Die Another Day, Gone Girl) who creates some friction in the group. She's also a good character that help to spice up the movie as it goes on. A very good character to have in there. She doesn't feel forced into the story in any way.

This is a fantastic end to the Cornetto-trilogy(the Cornetto-trilogy is the three movies that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright has made together, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. The fact that Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright work together and that they eat one of the flavors of the Cornetto ice-cream in each movie is the only link between the movies(some supporting cast is used in all three though)). There is a sci-fi element in this movie that I'm not going to go into but that shows that they have made a zombie-comedy, a action-comedy and now a sci-fi-comedy. This movie is more about the characters and the change from teens to adults and how sometimes some people refuses to leave their teenage years. It's a really good story about friendship and the difficulty of growing up and away from popularity with a good sci-fi plot. I want to mention the action-scenes in this movie is really good. There are some fistfights that are choreographed well and there is almost no shaky-cam(I really dislike the use of shaky-cam). In this movie to we get some cameos/supporting roles from famous British actors like Bill Nighy(known for his work on Hot Fuzz, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Love Actually) and Pierce Brosnan(known for his work on Mamma Mia!, Seraphim Falls, James Bond - Goldeneye). Always fun to see them in movies. A lot of great actors playing great characters in a great movie.

If you like comedies or sci-fis this is a movie for you. It's a fantastic movie all over. Some might look down on the sci-fi plot and say that it's not very good. I disagree. I like the sci-fi plot. It's not overly complicated and it doesn't take from the characters own stories. In my opinion this movie is maybe not as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz but it's still very good. My advice is to watch the whole trilogy.

TL;DR

Great movie. The trio of Pegg, Frost and Wright delivers again. Good written characters. Good plot, great comedy bits. Great supporting cast. If you liked Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead there's no reason not to give this a chance.

My question for you:
What is your favorite Sci-fi-comedy?
Would you want to see another movie from the trio of Pegg, Frost and Wright?

Movie: Hot Fuzz(2007) – My opinion

A buddy-cop action-comedy from the man that gave us Shaune of the Dead? Sign me up.

London super-cop Nichoals Angel i transferred against his will to a quiet English village, but this village may not be as quiet as people thought.

Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Shaun of the Dead) plays Nicholas Angel, a no-nonsen cop with an impressive record from London who is forced to relocate to a quiet village. This is another character Simon Pegg plays fantastic. The city-cop that doesn't fit in in a village. He's all about his job, he never switches off and doesn't know how to have fun. His new partner, Danny Butterman(played by Nick Frost who is known for his work on Shaun of the Dead, Paul, Cuban Fury), is more or less the opposite of Nicholas Angel. He's lazy, he kinda slow and way into action-movies. Nick Frost plays his character also fantastic. He's so annoying that you can really feel Nicholas Angels anger. The chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is just as good if not better than the chemistry they had in Shaun of the Dead. This is also the second movie that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work with director Edgar Wright (known for directing Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World's End) and it's another great movie. Again Edgar Wright helps with his direction to give this movie a little more personality than just another buddy-cop movie. It's also good to see that Shaun of the Dead was more than just a fluke.

This is just an all out fun movie. It starts of kinda slow with comedic elements and by the end it's just an all out action-movie using all the right cliches. You might feel like the movie has a kind off silly tone at the start but that will change. You will still get a lot of silliness as the movie goes on but when the plot is starting to show itself you will see that his movie is much more than silly. The plot, without spoiling it, is something you feel that almost can be true in real life. You get some mystery with the «who is the bad-guy» too. This movie has almost everything you want. You also get some cameos and supporting roles from famous British actors like Bill Nighy(known for his work on Hot Fuzz, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Love Actually), Martin Freeman(known for his work on The Hobbit Trilogy, Ali G InDaHouse, Sherlock(TV-Show)), Timothy Dalton(known for his work on James Bond – Licence to Kill, The Tourist, Chuck(TV-Show)), Rory McCann(known for his work on Clash of the Titans, Alexander, Game of Thrones(TV-Show)) and Olivia Coleman(known for her work on The Iron Lady, Cuban Fury and Broadchurch(TV-Show)). Fantastic actors playing great characters.

If you like comedies, mystery-movies or buddy-cop movies this is the one for you. It's just a great movie. One of the best action-comedies in recent times and it knows exactly what action cliches to use. This movies was what really put Simon Pegg on the map for me. Some would say that Shaun of the Dead did that but I had to see another movie with him so I know he wasn't good at just one role. I often hear the question of which of the movies are better, Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz and I will say that I my opinion Shaun of the Dead is a better movie but Hot Fuzz entertain me more but I all fairness you should see both.

TL;DR

Another fantastic movie from the trio of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright. Fun cameos, good characters, great actors. Great plot, fantastic action. A must watch.

My question for you:
What is your favorite buddy-cop-movie?
Who is your favorite cop character in a movie?

Movie: Shaun of the Dead(2004) – My opinion

My first meeting with this movie was the cover, a man with a cricket-bat and a lots of zombies, color me excited.

A man decides to turn his life around by winning back his ex, fixing his relationship with his mother and dealing with a zombie outbreak.

Simon Pegg(known for his work on Star Trek, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Hot Fuzz) is playing the role of Shaun, a man who's life has stopped in a way. He lives with his friends, he's single and he works a dead-end job. A zombie outbreak happens and Shaun makes a plan with his friend Ed(played by Nick Frost who is known for his work on Hot Fuzz, Paul, Cuban Fury) to get Shauns ex and mother, then go to the pub and wait for everything to blow over. This is my first experience seeing the chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and it's great. They are fantastic together on the screen. Simon Pegg plays his character just right. You can feel how his character is ok with how his life is but sometimes feel like he should do more with it. Nick Frost plays his character just as good as the friend who don't want to grow up and take responsibility. We really get the feeling that at sometimes he might be holding Shaun back in life, but that's what friends are for, right? This is also the first of three movies that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work with director Edgar Wright(known for directing Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World's End) who is a genius in my opinion. He really give the movie the feel of a zombie-movie that is much more than just another splatter-fest. A great director with a great vision.

This is one of those weird but fantastic movies that seems like one thing but is so much more. It has some horror, some romance and a lot of comedy. I have heard it been described as a love story set in a zombie-outbreak and when you think about it that really fits the movie. The group Shaun gathers as the movie goes on is filled with different characters who all got well written dialog and their own personalities. You don't feel like anyone of them is there just to get eaten by zombies. You even get a couple of really famous British actors to like Bill Nighy(known for his work on Hot Fuzz, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Love Actually), Dylan Moran(known for his work on Run Fatboy Run, Notting Hill, Black Books(TV-Show)) and Martin Freeman(known for his work on The Hobbit Trilogy, Ali G InDaHouse, Sherlock(TV-Show)). Great performances all around.

If you either like zombie-movies or comedies you should really check this out. It's a fantastic movie and i love it dearly. Sometimes it's a little scary and sometimes it's funny but it always knows what it is. There is also a great amount of references to other movies and so on which i really appreciate. Is there one thing you become sure of as you watch this is that the trio of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright is a winning combination. A must to watch in my opinion.

TL;DR

A fantastic movie directed by a really talented director. A very good cast playing great characters. It's a little horror, a little romantic and a lot of comedy. Worth every minute of the 99 minutes run-time. Simon Pegg is fantastic.

My question for you:
What is your favorite zombie-movie?

Movie: Taken 3(2015) – My opinion

!!!Spoilers!!!

The first Taken movie was a great movie so let's see if the third film in the franchise can hold up to it.

Bryan Mills is accused of a murder he didn't commit and have to use his particular set of skills to clear his name.

Liam Neeson (known for his work on Schindler's List, Batman Begins, Darkman) is back in the role as Bryan Mills and he's sadly not as good in this as earlier. It's not his acting, the acting is good but the fighting and so on. It's kinda slow and he's age is starting to show. This might be because of the editing of the movie but I'm really afraid it is because of Liam Neeson's age. I'm really hoping I'm wrong about the age thing though. Maggie Grace (known for her work on Faster, Knight & Day, Lockout) is also back for her role as Kim Mills who is the daughter of Bryan Mills. She is also the one who got taken in the first movie. Character-vise she is kinda flat. She's loyal to her father and so on. Nothing really out of the ordinary and she doesn't really grow as a character in the movie. She is ok and nice to have there but nothing special. Dougray Scott (known for his work on Hitman, Ripley's game, Mission: Impossible 2) plays Stuart St. John who is the guy that's together with Bryan Mills ex-wife. Another character that has no surprises to him. You know what he is going to be. Partially because of the smug look he has on his face all the time. If you see it you will know what i mean. In Dougray Scott's defense he is really great at the smug-face. He got that perfectly down. It's just a little do much in the movie. Bryan Mills ex-wife, Lenore St. John, is again played by Famke Janssen (known for her work on X-Men, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Goldeneye). She hasn't much to do in this movie and i think her character is really weak. Minor spoiler, she's thinking about leaving Stuart St. John, which is ok but she keeps talking to her ex about it and it's clear that she want's to get back with him. That kinda says that she thinks it because she know that Bryan Mills is going to be there for her. In my opinion i would have felt that she would have been a lot stronger if she left Stuart St. John by herself without going for getting back with Bryan Mills. New to this movie we get Forest Whitaker (known for his work on The Last King of Scotland, Phone Booth, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai) who is a great actor and easily the best one in this movie. He plays Inspector Frank Dotzler who is hunting Bryan Mills for the murder he didn't do. Good enough character but that is more because of Forest Whitaker than the character itself.

The story is nothing new. Bryan Mills is framed for a murder and he needs to clear his name. It's been done for forever. This time though, no one get really taken. It's just about the murder and i don't think that was a good choice. The movie-series is called Taken, why isn't anyone getting taken? They might have gotten away with it if they had a really good story but no. The story is maybe worse than Taken 2, and that's really sad. I hoped this would be the one that took this series up to the level of the first one again. I mentioned earlier that Liam Neeson looked old in his moves but that could be because of editing and so on. What i meant about that is that the editing in this movie is not good at all. It's cut by someone who is way to cutter-happy. During action and fights they cut to another angle about ever one and a half second. It's completely insane. If you see this movie, think about the cuts. There are so many it felt like a massacre. There is also some camera-shake in there. Some people add camera-shake because they say it feels more intense and so on. Guess what, they are wrong and i don't believe the reason at all. Usually they use fast cuts and camera-shake to hide things that doesn't look good on film. They sure hid things here. You can't see or understand what is happening when it goes on. Look at a movie like The Matrix. No camera-shake because they did everything right and didn't take shortcuts. They want you to see their work and what is happening and this is not the case with Taken 3. The directing is also questionable in my eyes. I mentioned Dougray Scott's smug-face. Someone had to say to him that he needed to do that all the time. Someone had to say that everything looks good and that is the director(the director is Olivier Megaton who is known for directing Taken 2, Colombiana, Transporter 3).

This is sadly not worth your time unless you like predictable dry action. There is really nothing special here. If you really want to see Liam Neeson in anything then re-watch the first Taken movie instead. Weak characters, mediocre acting from almost all, a bad story and some bad editing makes this movie a real disappointment. It's almost 2 hours long to that's a little to long for a straight up action movie. I don't think they are going to make a fourth Taken movie but if they do i hope they go back to more of the style as the first one.

TL;DR

Sadly this is not worth your time. Dry action, bad editing, bad characters. Predictable story and no surprises at all. Forest Whitaker is good but not good enough to save this movie. If you want a Taken-movie or a Liam Neeson movie watch the first Taken movie instead of this.

My question for you:
Would you like to see Taken 4 movie?
What is your favorite Liam Nesson movie?

Movie: Stardust(2007) – My opinion

!!!Spoilers!!!

A fantasy movie based on the novel Stardust written by Neil Gaiman, this is going to be awesome. This may be one of the most overlook movies ever in my opinion.

A young man promises his crush that he'll retrieve a fallen star for her by venturing into a magical realm.

Just a warning, this is once again an opinion on one of my favorite movies and just so you know, this movie is great. I have not read the novel by Neil Gaiman so i can't say how well it holds up against the novel but that's ok since this about just the movie, not where it came from. The director was picked by Neil Gaiman though so it got that going for it. The director(known for directing Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service) had not directed a lot of movies at the time this came around but i can't think about anyone that could have done this better. He has also shown later with great movies like Kingsman: The Secret Service that Stardust was not a fluke, he's a very very good director.

Our main character is Tristan Thorn(played by Charlie Cox who is known for his work on The Theory of Everything, Daredevil(TV-Series)) who has a character that has real growth. We meet him while he is doing all he can for a girl that doesn't want him. We all have probably been in that position where you do anything you can to get someone too understand the she/he should be with you. This makes him really relatable. Throughout the movie he learns what love really is and understands that his crush might not be the one for him. He goes on a fantastic journey filled with excitement, witches, princes and magic. He's all over a great character. On his quest for the fallen star he has promised his crush he meet Yvaine(played by Claire Danes who is known for her work on Romeo + Juliet, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Homeland(TV-Series)). Relatively early in the movie we learn that Yvaine was the fallen star Tristan was looking for. At the start she is kind off nagging and annoying and it's explained by the fact that she was just bounced out of the sky, and that she usually sleeps all day because she needs to shine at night. She is still kinda annoying but she has a reason for being it at least. She also evolves as the movie goes along. She learns more of people and she also learn Tristan a thing or two about what love really is. She also looks stunning in this movie. Like absurdly beautiful. You really think she could have been a fallen star. Good job to the actor and all that helped her shine. Also, she is another strong character. We also meet Septimus(played by Mark Strong who is known for his work on Kingsman: The Secret Service, Sherlock Holmes, The Imitation Game), the seventh son of the king who is hunting for a gem that will show him as the next king and give him the throne. The gem is the thing that crashed with Yvaine in the sky so she fell down. This also means that she is the one that has the gem then. He soon learns that they(Yvaine and Tristan) have the gem and also that she is a star. He want the gem, obviously, and he wants the stars heart because with that he can live forever. This character is very driven. He will do anything to become the king. He is still not the most dangerous character hunting for the star. Lamia(played by Michelle Pfeiffer who is known for her work on Hairspray, Scarface, Batman Returns) is a very strong witch wants the stars heart too, to get more power and to get young again. This character might be my favorite in the movie. She is really scary. Her powers are extremely powerful and she has two witches she lives with so there is three of them. Michelle Pfeiffer plays her brilliantly and scary, and sometimes funny. It's really great to see. Last one i want to mention is Captain Shakespeare(played by Robert De Niro who is known for his work on Ronin, Goodfellas, The Deer Hunter) who runs a lightning collector air ship. This helps us establish the world a little more with the fact that you can harvest lightning and that it's not allowed. De Niro is always fantastic to see onscreen and this captain is not what you expect. It is truly glorious. He also helps Tristan to become a swordsman, and to know that what he wants might be closer than he think. A truly great character.

This is a love story at heart, so if you really hate love stories then this is not for you. I have nothing against it, especially when it is well made like this. The fantasy aspect of this movie is great, with magic and witches and fallen stars and so on. The greatest thing with this movie is that it found the perfect middle-ground between fantasy, scary and comedy. There is some really great comedy bits in there. The seven princes are great for comedy. Believe me on that. The music and effects are also top notch. If you go on spotify and find the soundtrack from the movie you can kinda feel the adventure and fantasy in the music. This movie will show you the adventure of a boy trying to find a gift for a crush and instead he becomes a man and learns about life and love. It's just fantastic. A scene i want to really highlight is a spoiler, so spoiler-warning. The seventh prince dies and the witch uses his body to sword-fight with Tristan via voodoo. Very impressive scene because the seventh sons head is all over the place and his limbs kinda flies all over the place because he's dead. It's just a fantastic scene. So, in closing, this is one of the best fantasy love story's ever. You really feel you can relate to the characters, something that can be kinda hard in fantasy movies sometimes. A great and beautiful movie.

TL;DR

Great movie. A fantasy love story that keeps your attention from start to finish. Great characters, great character development. Fantastic villain. Fantastic music and effects. A great story about learning to know your feelings and learning that what you got in front of you may not be the best choice. If you don't know what to watch you can never go wrong with putting on Stardust.

My question for you:
What's your favorite fantasy movie?
What old fantasy-movie do you feel like they need to remake?
