Movie: Hot Fuzz(2007) – My opinion

A buddy-cop action-comedy from the man that gave us Shaune of the Dead? Sign me up.

London super-cop Nichoals Angel i transferred against his will to a quiet English village, but this village may not be as quiet as people thought.

Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Shaun of the Dead) plays Nicholas Angel, a no-nonsen cop with an impressive record from London who is forced to relocate to a quiet village. This is another character Simon Pegg plays fantastic. The city-cop that doesn't fit in in a village. He's all about his job, he never switches off and doesn't know how to have fun. His new partner, Danny Butterman(played by Nick Frost who is known for his work on Shaun of the Dead, Paul, Cuban Fury), is more or less the opposite of Nicholas Angel. He's lazy, he kinda slow and way into action-movies. Nick Frost plays his character also fantastic. He's so annoying that you can really feel Nicholas Angels anger. The chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is just as good if not better than the chemistry they had in Shaun of the Dead. This is also the second movie that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost work with director Edgar Wright (known for directing Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World's End) and it's another great movie. Again Edgar Wright helps with his direction to give this movie a little more personality than just another buddy-cop movie. It's also good to see that Shaun of the Dead was more than just a fluke.

This is just an all out fun movie. It starts of kinda slow with comedic elements and by the end it's just an all out action-movie using all the right cliches. You might feel like the movie has a kind off silly tone at the start but that will change. You will still get a lot of silliness as the movie goes on but when the plot is starting to show itself you will see that his movie is much more than silly. The plot, without spoiling it, is something you feel that almost can be true in real life. You get some mystery with the «who is the bad-guy» too. This movie has almost everything you want. You also get some cameos and supporting roles from famous British actors like Bill Nighy(known for his work on Hot Fuzz, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Love Actually), Martin Freeman(known for his work on The Hobbit Trilogy, Ali G InDaHouse, Sherlock(TV-Show)), Timothy Dalton(known for his work on James Bond – Licence to Kill, The Tourist, Chuck(TV-Show)), Rory McCann(known for his work on Clash of the Titans, Alexander, Game of Thrones(TV-Show)) and Olivia Coleman(known for her work on The Iron Lady, Cuban Fury and Broadchurch(TV-Show)). Fantastic actors playing great characters.

If you like comedies, mystery-movies or buddy-cop movies this is the one for you. It's just a great movie. One of the best action-comedies in recent times and it knows exactly what action cliches to use. This movies was what really put Simon Pegg on the map for me. Some would say that Shaun of the Dead did that but I had to see another movie with him so I know he wasn't good at just one role. I often hear the question of which of the movies are better, Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz and I will say that I my opinion Shaun of the Dead is a better movie but Hot Fuzz entertain me more but I all fairness you should see both.

TL;DR

Another fantastic movie from the trio of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright. Fun cameos, good characters, great actors. Great plot, fantastic action. A must watch.

My question for you:
What is your favorite buddy-cop-movie?
Who is your favorite cop character in a movie?
