Movie: Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!(2015) – My opinion

(Major Spoiler Warning!) (Major Spoiler Warning!) (Major Spoiler Warning!)

I will be talking about the whole movie in this post, the whole story will be revealed.

(Major Spoiler Warning!) (Major Spoiler Warning!) (Major Spoiler Warning!)

It's that time of year again when The Asylum gives us what they think we want. They are back with the third installment in their Sharknado series and i must say that i don't have huge hopes for this one. The two first Sharknado movies were a struggle to get through and i fear that this one will be the same.

A huge sharknado unleashes sharks from Washington D.C. to Orlando, Florida.

The movie starts of with Fin(played by Ian Ziering who is known for his work on Domino, Lava Storm, Beverly Hills 90210(TV-Series)) going to get an award from the president for his heroics in the earlier movies. The first good thing is that there is no Tara Reid in sight(if you haven't read my Sharknado 1 or Sharknado 2 opinions let me just say that her acting is the worst thing in these movies). 8 minutes into the movie we get our first sharknado. This is actually a good move by the filmmakers since we already know enough about the sharknados from the two earlier movies there is no reason to make us wait for the action. They put us right in there and i like it. This sharknado does significant damage to Washington D.C. but Fin and the president works together to survive and the sharknado ends on it's own. Fin's thoughts go out to April(played by Tara Reid who is known for her work on American Pie, Van Wilder, Alone in the Dark) who he has remarried(dammit Fin). She's at Universal Orlando with her daughter Claudia(played by Ryan Newman who is known for her work on Zoom, Lover Learning, See Dad Run(TV-Series)) and her mother May(played by Bo Derek who is known for her work on Tommy Boy, The Master of Disguise, Malibu's Most Wanted) so Fin decides to go there right away. On his way to Florida Fin encounters another sharknado but is rescued by a familiar face. Nova(played by Cassie Scerbo who is known for her work on Not Today, Bering Sea Beast, Teen Spirit) is back. She has partnered up with Lucas(played by Frankie Muniz who is known for his work on Racing Strips, Agent Cody Banks, Malcolm in the Middle(TV-Series)) and they use their time tracking storms. Fin hitches a ride from them but a sharknado form in Orlando before they arrive and they get detoured. They get themselves to a military airport where Fin has a friend that lets him and Nova borrow a fighter jet to try to stop the sharknado. While they are taking off Lucas dies from the sharks tossed from the sharkando. Another sharknado forms and hits Daytona where the Daytona 500 is underway and the sharknado kill several people and some drivers. Fin and Nova tries to blow up the sharknado but it does next to nothing. Up until now this has been kinda standard, at least in sharknado terms, but now is the time the movie finds out it has another gear. Fin figured out that several storms will soon combine into a Sharkicane that will destroy the entire East Coast. Fin the decides that he need help from his estranged father, former NASA colonel Gil Shepard(played by David Hasselhoff who is known for his work on Eurotrip, Anaconda 3: Offspring, Baywatch(TV-Series)) to destroy the storm from space. That's the most insane plan i have ever heard. You got to give the makers credit for creativity. Also, to get Hasselhoff in this is just fantastic. So Gil, Fin, Nova and April reach NASA headquarters and finds out that the only solution is to use a top-secret spacecraft to drop tanks of fuel into the storm, destroying it from orbit. At this time in the movie i'm actually entertained and laughing like crazy. Anyway, the plan fails to stop the sharkicane but Gil has a plan b. Gil says he can deploy a Reagan-era Star Wars satellite from outer space. Oh, i almost forgot, the pregnant wife of Fin, April, is also there. Why, because the makers wanted her there, i don't know. But it can't be good to go into space pregnant. Anyway, they get instructions on how to use the weapon but something goes wrong and Gil must sacrifice himself in order to deploy the top-secret laser weapon. He gets stranded in space but he says its ok, it's where he wants to be(Awww, no Hasselhoff for a sequel). So this must be the end. The laser destroys the storm and how much more over the top can it become? Well, when you use a laser beam to destroy sharknados the sharks gets propelled into space. So the space shuttle is attacked by sharks and while Fin is fighting them off with an energy-beam chainsaw he and April gets eaten by two separate sharks. So this is a good thing because the sharks fall towards earth and since they are on the inside they are safe when they enter the atmosphere. Fin gets out and looks for April, he hears her saw-arm spinning up. A shark gets cut open and Fin are handed a baby through the shark. That right, she gave birth inside the shark. She is also fine by the way. Fin calls the baby Gil after his father who we now see is on the moon. Fragments from the shuttle come falling down and it looks like it's going to hit April aaaaaaand it's done. End credits. We get to see there that the public will decide with hash-tags if April will survive or die. Oh my god what a crazy movie.

When looking at the characters Fin is still the best one, not that that's very hard in this movie. All characters come out as kinda flat with more or less no development. Fin is always trying to do the right thing no matter what. Aprils character are still the most annoying one. I wonder if i'm the only one who means that. I guess ill find out now that they are doing the hash-tag survey if shes going to live or not. Their daughter Claudia does very little throughout the whole movie. She gets some action at the end of the movie but are more or less just reading of some lines and then stand in the background. Aprils mother May is extremely annoying. I don't know if she was written that way so we get an explanation on why April is so annoying but if that's the case i'm very impressed. This is another character that doesn't do anything useful throughout the movie. Completely useless character in my opinion. Lucas was an unnecessary character. He did do something and had a couple of lines but he had next to no impact on the story. Luckily the makers saw that he became useless so the removed him. Gil is an alright character i guess, at least in this movie. He helps to save the world and he sacrifices himself. Good on you Hasselhoff. I still think that Tara Reid shows us the weakest acting in the movie but i will say that Bo Derek is a damn close second. Ian Zierings acting is decent but very cheesy at times and Frankie Muniz comes of as whiny. All in all, it just what a sharknado movie demands.

While sharknado 2 did nothing new Sharknado 3 actually do. We get the Sharkicane. They go into space. They take the formula and just run with it and the movie is better because of it. I had really big laughs at times, which is more than i can say about the two predecessors. This one is also filled with cameos and its actually kinda fun to see them all. You get cameos of Penn & Teller, Lou Ferrigno, Jerry Springer, Grant Imahara, Chris Jericho, George R.R. Martin, Jedward and many many more. And its so great to see David Hasselhoff in a movie. This fits him so good. Another smart thing is that the movie is only 88 minutes long. Had it been any longer it would get boring really quick. Don't get me wrong now, this is still a bad movie. The story is over the top stupid, the special effects still looks like something i could do ten years ago and some of the acting is so bad that you are sure they are acting bad. The thing is it's not as bad as the two before it. Its more over the top and its more fun. So i think that what i'm saying is that if you like bad movies(as some people do) and want to watch sharknado you can skip the two first and go straight to this one. This is still only for the ones with special interests. Its fun but its not enough to make it worth your time, but they did announce Sharkando 4 so maybe next time.

TL;DR

Ok start, insane climax. Its really fun but that's not enough. Bad effects, bad acting, dull characters. Its way over the top but still not worth your time. It has some new ideas, some insane plans to stop the sharknados, but its still not enough. This is the best of the Sharknado movies but it's still to bad to recommend. I recommend to stay away from this one unless you really want to throw away 88 minutes.

My question for you:
Is it really necessary with a Sharknado 4?
Do you want April to live or die?

Movie: Run All Night(2015) – My opinion

A new movie with Liam Neeson who is going to run all night, sure, can't be worse than Taken 3.

An aged hitman for the mob must save his estranged son from the mob he works for when the estranged son sees something he shouldn't.

Liam Neeson(known for his work on Taken, Schindler's List, Batman Begins) plays our hitman Jimmy Conlon. You can say he's kinda like the other characters Liam has played lately, the old man who can kill you with one arm. This also means that he hasn't much of an arc since he already know how to kill and so on. He does have some nice moments with both his son and his old boss that shows us who he really is. He just want his son to be alright which is something a lot of people can releate too. With all that said i must admit that Liam is really good in these kind of roles. You really feel like he can do all the things his character does. Without Liam in this role i believe that the character would not have worked very well. He's trying to help his son Mike Conlon(played by Joel Kinnaman who is known for his work on Safe House, RoboCop, The Killing(TV-Series)) who saw a murder committed by the mobs boss son which in turn means that the mob is coming for him. I really like the character of Mike. He doesn't have contact with his father anymore but when the mob comes for him his father steps up to help him. The scenes between Jimmy and Mike are really good. You get the sense that they are actually father and son. Joel plays the part as the son perfectly. You also want him to survive. The movie gives you a lot of reasons to want him to survive. He helps kids without fathers and he has a family and kids and a kid on the way. It sounds like that's a little much but its actually not, it works very well. The mob boss Shawn Maguire(played by Ed Harris who are known for his work on The Abyss, The Rock, A History of Violence) is what he sounds like. He's a mob boss through and through. As earlier mentioned he has some great moments with Jimmy but he's like what you think of when you hear the words mob boss. This is another character that is saved by the actor playing him. Without Ed playing this character he would most likely be very forgettable. They also have some great actors in the supporting roles like Common(known for his work on Wanted, Terminator Salvation, Smokin' Aces), Bruce McGill(known for his work on Law Abiding Citizen, Collateral, MacGyver(TV-Series)) and Vincent D'Onofrio(known for his work on Full Metal Jacket, Men In Black, Daredevil(Netflix-Series)).

The story of the movie is not a new thing. Jimmy needs to help his son survive when the mob comes for him. There are elements of some forced exposition but nothing that makes the movie bad. For me its the relationship between Jimmy and Mike that saves this movie for me. Jimmy even tries to keep his son from killing anyone. He doesn't want that for his son at just that little thing does wonders for the chemistry between the two. The one think i really dislike is that they show a part for later in the movie in the start. Some movie can do this without problems but they are very few. There are no reason in this one too do that. Now i know something that's going to happen later in the movie and are more or less just waiting for that. Everything else about this movie is good enough. The acting is good, the action is good, the story is ok. Having said all that i must say that this is not a movie for anyone, its for the action fan or the Neeson fan. Its not enough here to keep people without the special interest for action entertained. Liam Neeson looks great in this one, a lot better than in Taken 3. I don't know if its because of the editing or just that Liam was more interested in this project but it works very well. Joel Kinnaman shows that he really can act. I believe that he has a huge future in front of himself in Hollywood. With a runtime of 114 minutes it's a little long but nothing to get a fuzzy about. The climax is worth the wait anyway.

The movie is good enough to watch if you haven't got anything else to watch or are looking for just a movie to put on. I would recommend to watch it though if you are a fan of actionfilms or a huge Liam Neeson fan. It has it's problems but it works regardless. Good movie, intense action, great fun.

TL;DR

Good movie, great fun, intense action. Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman are great in their roles. Great chemistry between actors. Recommended for actionfans. Runtime of 114 minutes.

My question for you:
What is you favorite Joel Kinnaman role?
What franchise would you like to see Liam Neeson in?

Movie: 7 Seconds(2005) – My opinion

After the incredible bad experience of watching Game of Death i decided to give Wesley Snipes another chance. 7 seconds was my choice this time, wish me luck.

An experienced thief accidentally steals a Van Gogh which results in that his partner gets kidnapped forcing him to make a rescue plan.

Wesley Snipes(who is known for his work on Blade, Passanger 57, Demolition Man) is our master thief Jack Tulliver. Tulliver is a really boring character. No character-arc or anything like that. What you see is what you get off him. Snipes is ok in the role, it's just that the role is not good. His co-star this time around is Tamzin Outhwaite(who is known for her work on EastEnders(TV-Series), Paradox(TV Mini-Series), New Tricks(TV-Series)) in the role as Sgt. Kelly Anders. The one and only thing that makes her stand out from everyone else is that she is British, that's all. I mean shes just as boring as Tulliver. The rest of the cast suffers from the same too. Too boring, really bland and a lot of bad writing.

The reason the movie is called 7 seconds is because at one time in the movie, in the start, there is a timer sat to 7 seconds and it is never referenced again. They didn't need to call it that because of that timer. It feels really weird, especially since they never do something like it again, its just that one time. The story is predictable all the way through. You know someone on Tullivers side is sharing information with the enemy since they knew where and how to find them and it's really not that hard to guess who it is. Some weird editing but nothing that breaks the movie. Every action moment is mediocre too. There's really nothing to get from this movie, i have no idea how it got green-light.

Of all the straight-to-dvd Wesley Snipes movies i have watched i think this might be the worst. What it does is things you have seen before and its not done good. It's sloppy written and a boring story. This was the longest 96 minutes of my life. Unless you need something to fall asleep to i would not recommend this movie. On second thought don't use it for that either.

TL;DR

Bad bad movie. Bad writing, boring characters, 96 minutes of boredom, i recommend staying away from this one.

My question for you:
What is you favorite bad movie?
What is, in your opinion, Wesley Snipes worst movie?

Movie: Game of Death(2010) – My opinion

I was bored one evening and looking through Netflix to find something to watch and then i saw him, Wesley Snipes on the cover of a movie and i thought to myself, this could be interesting.

Secret Ops agent Marcus is sent to Detroit to take out an arms dealer and they who are financing him.

In our lead as the Secret Ops agent Marcus we have Wesley Snipes(who is known for his work on Blade, Passanger 57, Demolition Man). Snipes doesn't really look like he cares about what he's doing here. It feel like he's there just for a payday and that's really not a good way to play a character. His character is more or less what i wrote earlier. He's a trained agent who knows how to fight and shoot. He has no character-arc or growth. So Marcus's assignment is to gather intel on Frank Smith(played by Robert Davi who is known for his work on Predator 2, James Bond: Licence to Kill, Die Hard), who is an arms dealer, and John Redvale(played by Quinn Duffy who is known for his work on The Corporate Ladder, Playback, The Nutty Professor), who is an hedge fund manager. Marcus gets himself hired as Frank Smith's bodyguard and goes with him to the Redvale building where Frank Smith is going to get $100,000,000 in cash. The car with Marcus and Frank Smith gets attacked by unknown men. Marcus's mentor Dietrich and several other CIA agents are in a helicopter above as backup but the other agents kill Dietrich and starts a plot to steal the $100,000,000. Marcus and Frank Smith survives the attack but a new problem presents in the heat of the battle with Frank Smith is having a Heart Attack. Marcus drives to a hospital with the agents, Floria(played by Zoƫ Bell who is known for her work on Death Proof, Bitch Slap, Django Unchained) and Zander(played by Gary Daniels who is known for his work on Tekken, The Expendables, The Mark), and their team hot on their heels.

As you might have understood by reading what i wrote over this is not a groundbreaking story in anyway. It doesn't try anything more than what it says on the box and it's kinda predictable. So here you have a predictable story with very flat and boring dialog and characters without any development, all this makes for a very boring movie. The pacing of the movie get really broken because of the editing of the movie with some unnecessary flashbacks and some very weird fades here and there. The whole movie is literally in a flashback which means that you know Marcus is going to be fine. I don't know if it would have made the movie better if he died but not knowing is important when you are watching a movie like this. They removed all suspense with showing us that he will be ok at the end. So how is the action? It's kinda ok. It's sometimes slow and awkward but it's not the worst i have seen but it's far from enough too save this 98 minute train wreck.

So just to get this out there, i have nothing against Wesley Snipes. I even like some of the movies he's been in but this is not one of them. It lacks imagination, good editing and a real script. Some of the actors feels like they don't even wanna be there. That with the lack of tension and bad pacing makes this a movie you really don't need to see.

TL;DR

Bad dialog, ok action, weak story with no surprises. The pacing is off and that's impressive since it's only 98 minutes long. No need to watch this.

My question for you:
Is there really a place for this kind of straight-to-DVD movies still?
What is your favorite Wesley Snipes role?
