Movie: Pacific Rim(2013) – My opinion

A giant robot(Jeager(German) = Hunter) versus monsters(Kaiju(Japanese) = Giant Beast) movie from the mind of the man who gave you Pan's Labyrinth. This could possible be the greatest thing of all time so fire up your elbow-rocket and let's check out Pacific Rim.

The year is 2020 and the earth is at war with the Kaijus, huge monsters that emerges from a crack on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Humans come together to create the Jaegers, huge robots piloted by at least two pilots whos minds are joined by a neural bridge. We follow a washed-up Jeager pilot who gets called back into action.

I didn't want to spoil much in the plot-line but i just want to say that there is a lot more in this movie then just what i wrote. So if you're going to watch it it might be good to watch it now before you read on.

I freakin' love this movie. It's just so much fun. It's far from perfect but it had everything i expected and wanted. It has a big plot-hole, some really stupid moments(like not telling one pilot of a weapon your Jeager has. That's so stupid) and a couple of very cheesy moments but the good outweighs the bad. I was so excited when i heard that Guillermo del Toro(who is known for directing Blade 2, Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth) was directing this movie. The inside of his head works like no one elses in the best way. He has a great talent for creature design and does not get stuck on stereotypical monsters like someone might. Having said that i wish the design of the Kaiju in this movie would have been a little more varied. They are a little dark and gloomy but that's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong though, they are good and they are very impressive in size just like the Jeagers. They are gigantic. The Jeager designs are really cool and they have some very cool weapons. My main problem with the Jeagers is that we see way to little of the other Jeagers than just the main characters Jeager. Also a recurring problem when the Jeagers and Kaiju fight there is always rain. You might no think that is so bad but i would like to see a fight in the sunshine. Another cool idea is mind drifting. This splits the audience i feel. Some hate it, some love it and i love it. Instead of just putting a pilot in a Jeager they put in two pilots that have to connect their minds. This gives the movie a little more depth and room to explore characters memories which again results in some character development and some interesting situations. All of this is tied together with great and intense action and a great soundtrack.

Our washed-up Jeager pilot, Raleigh Becket(played by Charlie Hunnam who is know for his work on Green Street Hooligans and Sons of Anarchy), is a decent main character. He's not great but he's good enough. Charlie Hunnam plays him good and with the intensity he's known for in some of his other projects. His copilot Mako Mori(played by Rinko Kikuchi who is known for her work on The Brothers Bloom and 47 Ronin) is a great character. I wanted her to be little better to stand up for herself but she has some really great moments in the movie. You also get some great background story on her and Rinko Kikuchi plays her brilliantly. Another pilot, Chuck Hansen(played by Robert Kazinsky who is known for his work on Red Tails and Eastenders and is going to play Orgrim in the upcoming Warcraft movie), who is not impressed with the has-been Raleigh Becket. He is totally a douche. It feels a little forced and you feel like he's just there to be an asshole to Raleigh Becket. Who would use their time to be a douche and fight another pilot at a time where there are a pilot and Jeager shortage? It seems very stupid but i have to say that Robert Kazinsky plays a great douche. Their leader, Stacker Pentecost(played by Idris Elba who is know for his work on the Thor movies, Prometheus and Luther), is a great leader. He has of course his cheesy speeches and what not but most of the time he is actually useful. You got your weird science guy, Dr. Newton Geiszler(played by Charlie Day who is known for his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Horrible Bosses), who is a great contrast to have in between all the pilots. He also helps with some exposition without it being to clunky. We also meet Hannibal Chau(played by Ron Perlman who is known for his work on Hellboy, Drive, Sons of Anarchy) who is a black marketeer who deals in Kaiju organs. This tells us a little more of what happens to the Kaiju once they are defeated and i think it might be something like this if it would happen in real life. People will always try to sell stuff and people will always try to buy stuff. He's a dodgy but great character.

As i have already said i love this movie. It could have been your standard mediocre monster-flick but with some strong characters and the drifting part makes it kinda better and deeper than other monster-movies. You get to see what happens after a fight with the dead Kaiju is also great. Great movie, just great. Also, check out the short video Pacific Rim: Training Day. Some youtubers(Jesse Cox, Dodger, Total Biscuit,Husky and more)stars in this short and there is a brief cameo of Guillermo del Toro which is so cool that he did.

TL;DR

Great movie. Kaiju and Jeagers are huge. Jeagers look great. Some good characters and pretty good acting. Mind Drifting is a cool. Some stupid and cheesy moments. Too much rain. One of my favorite movies of 2013. Great soundtrack. Intense and good action. If you don't like Mech movies or monster movies it kinda obvious that this is not for you.

My question for you:
What's you favorite monster-movie?
What's your favorite monster?

Movie: Enemy of the State(1998) – My opinion

A spy-thriller with The Fresh Prince Will Smith. I'm hopeful but very nervous. Tony Scott is directing so that's a big plus. Time to get paranoid with Enemy of the State.

The plot is really straight forward when you break it down. Someone recorded something they shouldn't and they now need to die. The way they tell their story is what i like. So the «bad-guys» in this movie is the NSA. They have their goons and tech and all that. It all starts with an U.S. NSA official named Thomas Reynolds(Played by Jon Voight who's known for his work on Mission: Impossible and Heat) meets with a congressman in a park to discuss support for a new counter-terrorism legislation that gives the NSA more surveillance powers. The congressman will keep blocking its passage since he believes it would destroy the privacy of American citizens. Reynolds and his team murder the congressman and makes it look like an accident. They later discover that a wildlife researcher had a camera aimed at the location of the murder. The researcher watches the footage, transfers it to a video game cartridge and flees his apartment when the Reynolds team comes to get the evidence from him. In his escape from the team he bumps into Robert Clayton Dean(played by Will Smith who's known for his work on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Bad Boys and Men In Black) and slips him the cartridge without him knowing it. The NSA discovers that Robert may have the cartridge and they plant bugs in his house to find the video. Since Robert doesn't know that he has the cartridge it never comes up so the NSA needs a new plan. They want to make him not believable so they get him fired from his job as a lawyer, freeze his bank accounts and get's his wife to throw him out of his house. Robert finds help in Brill(Gene Hackman who's known for his work on Superman 1 & 2, Poseidon Adventure and Crimson Tide) who worked for the NSA as a communications expert before going into hiding.

When this movie came out in 1998 it scared a lot of people because of what it shows the NSA being capable of. They bug and track people, the listen in to phone-calls and freeze your money. It made some people get a little paranoid of what the NSA(and other agencies) could do. While it is a little too much to believe it works very well anyway. The director Tony Scott(who is known for his director work on Top Gun, Crimson Tide, Deja Vu and Unstoppable) holds a great pace in the movie and makes a lot of it believable(as long as you go along a little). It's intense and you really feel for Robert in his work for getting back his old life. I don't know if this goes under an guilty pleasure or not but i really like the movie. It has a lot of problems and a lot of good things but if you watch this and expect The Shawshank Redemption you are going to be disappointed. Will Smith and Gene Hackman is good. Will Smith shows that he can do more things than just Action and Comedy. Nice for a Friday night on the couch.

TL;DR

Good spy-thriller. It holds up great. Some things they to as the NSA you just know can't be done but if you can look past that there is a lot this work. Will Smith is really good in his role. Tony Scott's great directing. Intensity is great.

My question for you:
What is your guilty pleasure movie of the 90's?

Game: Battlefield Hardline(2015) – Single-player Campaign – My Opinion

So this is it, the Battlefield game no one asked for. The first time i saw Battlefield Hardline I really wasn't impressed with it. It looked like something that should be a DLC(and I'm not the first one saying that). Also, this is not developed by DICE(developer of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4), it's developed by Visceral(developer of the Dead Space series and Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel). So to recap we got a game no one asked for that looks like a DLC and is developed by another studio than made the other Battlefield games. Oh damn.

The story is set in Miami during a drug war where you play as detective Nick Mendoza(played by Nicholas Gonzalez who is known for his work on True Blood and Behind Enemy Lines 2). You and your partner follow the drug-trail and you soon realize corruption can affect both sides of the law. The last time there were cops looking for a lot of drugs in Miami we got Bad Boys 2, just saying. Nick Mendoza as a character is ok. He's not a bad character but he could also be better in some ways. Having said there are some interesting characters too, like your boss Julian Dawes(played by Benito Martinez who is known for his work on Sons of Anarchy and House of Cards) and your partner, Khai Minh Dao(played by Kelly Hu who is known for her work on X-Men 2, The Scorpion King and Cradle 2 the Grave). You also meet a colleague, Carl Stoddard(played by Travis Willingham who is know for his work on Far Cry 4 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) who is a total badass but you never get a good feel on where his loyalties are. There are more good characters in there but i feel like you get the my point, and all of them have good voiceacting.

So, right of the bat when I start the game is a loading screen that yells «woop woop it's the sound of the Police» and I'm instantly pumped and ready for action, and action was what i got. Sadly that firefight was really short and then the game slowed the pace way down. I had a couple game crashes and some long loading-screens but the loading-screens are just there and survivable and the crashes are probably patched and fixed by now. Probably nothing to worry about. They have this TV-show feel on the game so every time you quit the game there comes a small scene that says «Next time on Hardline» and shows a little of the action to come, with no spoilers of course. The same happens when you continue your game but they say «previously on Hardline» and you get a little recap on what has happened. This i like. You really get that TV-show feeling they are going for and you won't forget what happened last time you played. I also really like the cops and criminals theme, it works better for me than the military theme(it may be because I have played so many military shooters the last couple of years). There are also some possibilities to be stealthily which is a nice and kinda surprising thing to have in a game like Battlefield. Using the stealth-possibilities you can sneak up on criminals and arrest them which will reward you more than just shooting everyone. There are also some extra objectives to do for more rewards, these are objectives like collecting evidence an arresting specific criminals. The story of the game starts of good but it looses it's momentum halfway through. There is some good writing and some great action-pieces but the story just turns into something i didn't like, but it's still better than the story in Battlefield 3 and way better than the story in Battlefield 4. Oh yeah, I really hated the ending, i won't spoil it anymore then saying that I hated it. After playing for 7 hours and 30 minutes I was hoping for something better then what i got. Unless you really like playing single-player campaigns you won't miss anything by not playing this, just go right for the multiplayer. Speaking of that, multiplayer, here i come.

TL;DR

Get that TV-show feeling. Good characters with great actors playing them. Good start but looses steam underway. Some good action-pieces. Stealth-possibilities are good. Extra objectives are always good to have. I used 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete it. My advice is if you don't really love to play single-player just jump into the multiplayer.

My question for you:
Do you play the campaign in these type of games?(Call of duty, Battlefield, Medal of Honor)?
Do you think they should stop making single player campaign to these type of games and just focus on multiplayer?

Game: Syndicate(2012) – My opinion

I've heard some bad things about this game but I have never played it so I thought it was time to try it. I played the Syndicate game that came out in 1993 and was isometric real-time tactical game. I really enjoyed that game. So the Syndicate game from 2012 is a first-person shooter and they called it a reboot if I'm not mistaken. I am hopeful. A reboot of a game I enjoyed in my favorite genre. What could go wrong?

The story puts us in the future of 2069. The worlds largest corporations merge and Eurocorp is created. In 2025 Eurocorp released the DART-chip, an implant that allows users to access the dataverse and make most electronic devices obsolete. As a result of the DART-chip, the world is no longer ruled by governments, but by large mega-corporations known as Syndicates. The unchipped people, about half of the worlds population, are abandoned and are denied the same benefits that chipped people get. Agents who are chipped and bio-engineered are used for corporate espionage and enforcers for their corporate masters. I have heard of worse sci-fi action stories. I have a good feeling.

You play as Miles Kilo, an Agent working for Eurocorp. As a main character he's really not that interesting, probably because he doesn't talk. There are some backstory elements that come throughout the story but i thought he was boring. He has his DART-Chip but it doesn't let you do anything special(no super-jumping or super-speed or other things like that). On some missions you get help from a fellow Agent, Jules Merit(voiced by Michael Wincott who is known for his work on movies like The Crow and The Three Musketeers), who you don't know if is going to be a good guy or a bad guy mostly thanks to great voiceacting. It's also nice when he is with you so someone can explain what is going on. You both works for Jack Denham(voiced by Brian Cox who is known for his work on movies like RED and X-Men 2), the CEO of Eurocorp. Standard evil CEO really. You just know it when you see him. Not many surprises from this guy. Too maintain you and your chip they got Lily Drawl(voiced by Rosario Dwason who is known for her work on Men In Black 2 and Clerks 2), a senior member of Eurocorp. Good actors but i don't think they got enough to work with so everything kinda feels flat.

The start of the game is good(This game me hope). They throw you right into action and i love that kind of stuff. It's intense and good-looking. I like this dark world bright lights look of the world. The insides of buildings and so on looks good too but i like the outside better, that's just my personal opinion. Then suddenly, a tutorial, and sadly it's not a good one. They are outright painful. First they show you what to do, then you have to do it, then you have to complete a challenge using it. It really kills the pacing of the game. They should maybe just have had it say what button to press and then just let you use it on an enemy. The game is very straight forward, there is almost nothing to explore. This is really a missed opportunity, you can make a lot of lore and hide it all over the map. The story, as a game, is actually pretty weak. It might have been better as a movie. It's not all very bad, you get some abilities that work on other peoples chips so you can for example make them commit suicide. You also get some cool guns, like the one you where you lock on to your target and then you can curve the bullets around cover. After a couple of hours though, it starts to feel really repetitive and when there isn't a good story to pull you forward it's really hard to keep playing. The story is just way to predictable and the ending is unsatisfying. To make it even worse the story is really short. I used about 4 hours to complete it. This game is really not worth your time I'm sorry to say. I had high hopes but this is a lot worse than i thought.

TL;DR

I really wanted to like this but it's just not good enough. I love the genre and the world. Some good abilities and weapons. Predictable story. Very short, i completed it in 4 hours. Bad tutorials. Not worth to play in my opinion.

My question for you:
What is the worst game you've played?
What do you expect of an First-person shooter?

Movie: Sharknado 2: The Second One(2014) – My opinion

Oh god they made another one. The production company, The Asylum, is back with the sequel too the terrible Sharknado. I do think there is an audience for these kind of movies but the first Sharknado was truly terrible. For more info on Sharknado please see my opinion on it posted on the 24th of February 2015.

So this is Sharknado 2: The Second One, yes it's actually called that. Just like the first one this is a movie sold only on its name(sold is maybe not the right word since it's a straight too TV movie). The plot is also the same as the first Sharknado movie except this time we are in New York City and by chance our hero and his ex-wife from the first movie is in New York City to promote a book she wrote called «How to Survive a Sharknado and other Unnatural Disasters»(hey, i have that book). You would think that if the weather is getting so bad that there could be tornadoes there would be some kind of early warning system or a weatherman or something to warn people but i guess not. The movie says no to that, no warning. This comes out of nowhere.

Ian Ziering(Beverly Hills 90210) and Tara Reid(American Pie,Van Wilder,Alone in the Dark) return to play their characters from the first movie, Fin and April. Not much have changed, Ian is kinda good and Tara can't act. I still don't understand why Fin wants to be with April so bad. She is so unlikable it's almost ridiculous. There is a lot of cameos in this movie too, a lot. I will probably forget some of them but the ones i saw was Andy Dick(The Andy Dick Show), Billy Ray Cyrus(Hannah Montana, Musician, Father of Miley Cyrus), Wil Wheaton(Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Big Bang Theory), Kelly Osbourne(Austin Powers in Goldmember, Daughter of Ozzy Osbourne), Robert Hays(Airplane), Sandy «Pepa» Denton(From musicgroup Salt-n-Pepa), Kurt Angle(Wrestler known for his time in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment) and Richard Kind(Spin City, Argo). That's not all though because we got some famous people with bigger roles than cameos. They got Judd Hirsch(Independence Day,Numbers), Vivica A. Fox(Independence Day, Kill Bill vol. 1, Kill Bill vol. 2) and Kari Wuhrer(Tanya in the videogame Red Alert 2). I have no idea why all these people wanted to be in this movie but i guess that if they had asked me i would probably say yes to.

The productionvalue is still the same, bad. The special effects looks like it's been done by a highschooler on his familys computer. It's really bad. The dialog is so badly written it almost hurts. I was almost crying 15 minutes into this movie because of the dialog alone. There are some good ideas for scenes, situations and locations, like things happening down in the subway but it's just too poorly executed. It's also way to predictable which character is doomed from the start. There is also an extreme amount of bad puns. I love puns, puns are great but these are just to bad. But it's not all bad. Fin has a speech that although cheesy is kinda badass. Also when Fin gets a chainsaw everything gets better. The climax of the movie is better than the climax in the first movie. The whole movie overall is better than the first one. The run time is 95 minutes is ok. They are kinda pushing it and i believe that if they make these movies any longer it's going to overstay its welcome. Now we just play the waiting game for Sharknado 3.

TL;DR

Dumb movie with really bad dialog. You really need to like bad movies to watch this. Do not watch it alone, get your friends together and make fun of it. A lot of cameos. Same plot as the first, different location. Very bad effects. Better then the first one and a way better climax then in the first movie.

My question for you:
Do you like these kind of bad movies?
Are you excited for Sharknado 3?

Movie: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World(2010) – My Opinion

Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriends seven evil exes in order to win her heart.

I just want to start of by saying that i have not read the comic the movie is based on and i have heard that some people who had read it didn't like some of the changes they did in the movie. This means that my look on it is just for the movie, not what it is in the eyes of the comic or anything like that, but i will say that this is one of my favorite movie right now.

Michael Cera(Juno, Superbad) plays Scott Pilgrim and he plays the character great. I remember there being some angry people because they didn't think Michael Cera was a good fit for the role but he owns the role, even the fighting parts. The rest of the cast is also great with actors like Mary Elizabeth Winstead(The Thing, A good day to die hard), Kieran Culkin(Home Alone, She's all that), Anna Kendrick(50/50, Pitch Perfect) and Aubrey Plaza(Parks and Recreation) just to name a few. This is also another movie where they/we were lucky with the director. Edgar Wright(Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End) brings his fantastic vision and beautiful weirdness to this movie in a great way. He makes the real-life elements combine with comic book effects look fantastic. There are also a lot of gaming-humor and some great references.

The story plays out in Canada where we follow Scott Pilgrim, bass player of the garage-band Sex Bob-omb. He falls in love with a girl, Ramona, and have to fight her seven evil exes. I love this story. It's weird but in a great way and it's told in a way that brings me into the world of Scott Pilgrim. The fights are great and every fight feels different, the effects are used to great effect(what?) and the characters are solid.

TL;DR

A fantastic movie. One of my all time favorites. Michael Cera owns the role as Scott Pilgrim. Great cast all round. Gamer humor. Fantastic blend of real people and comic book effects.

My question for you:
Do you like the way they made this comic book movie?
Have you read the comic? What do you think of the changes they made?

Game: Bulletstorm(2011) – My opinion

!!Minor spoilerwarning!!

Bulletstorm takes place in the 26th century, where the universe is run by the Confederation of planets. Star general Sarrano sends his secret black ops team, the Dead Echo team, led by Grayson Hunt, to do his dirtywork. Following Sarrano's orders and assassinating those whom they believe are criminals, Dead Echo kill a man known as Bryce Novak, but soon discover he was a civilian reporter, documenting deaths caused by Dead Echo. Grayson and his team realize they have been duped by Sarrano and desert, becoming space pirates on the run from Sarrano's forces.
Ten years later, Grayson drunkenly attacks Sarrano's battlecruiser, the Ulysses, while near the planet of Stygia. Grayson rams the Ulysses forcing both to crash land on Stygia. Now the look for a way off the planet while surviving the local population and the environment of Stygia.

The game is great as long as you're not easily offended by crass humor. This means that i love it. It also came out at a good time. There was a lot of very serious shooters coming out at that time so a silly and fun first person shooter was great. Voice-acting is also good, not that weird since it's Steve Blum(Sauron from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor) and Jennifer Hale(Female Shepard from Mass Effect) giving their voices.

Even though the humor is great and the story is decent the real pull for me is the skillshot system. There is a lot of ways to kill people in this game and you want to do them all because the points you get from the kills are used to upgrade weapons and buy ammo. Some examples of kills are Pricked which you get by flinging an enemy into a cactus and Fast Food that you get from killing an enemy with a hot dog cart. There are rewards for every weapon so there is many to do. Another thing that is really great is your leash. You use it to knock people up in the air or pull enemies towards you. You also have a powerful kick. There are some really cool combinations you can get out of this.

The world of Stygia is also great. It looks really great with beautiful colors. You go through many different locations and every location looks great and feels different. This was also great because it came out when a lot of games where mostly brown and grey. Music and sound is also top notch. The action makes me feel like I'm in a action-movie in just the right way.

TL;DR

Great humor. Skillshot system is fantastic. The world looks great. Great fights, great weapons. Nice graphics and beautiful colors. I love this game, it's so much fun. If you like crass humor and killing people in creative ways this is a good buy for you and since it came out in 2011 you'll probably get it for a good price. Now we just need a Bulletstorm 2.

My question for you:
Do you think there is to many serious shooters out there?
Do you feel like we need more games like this?
Do you want a Bulletstorm 2?

Movie: National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon – My opinion

An Los Angeles detective is murdered because she has a microfilm with the recipe to make cocaine cookies. It's up to Sergeants Jack Colt and Wes Luger to crack the case and put a stop to the cocaine cookies.

This is a parody-movie taking much if it's influence from Lethal Weapon. I must say that i really think this movie is better than what people give it credit for. If you look at a parody-movie of today and put it up against Loaded Weapon then Loaded Weapon is better, at least that's my opinion. I think that it's up there with the Naked Gun series. The main characters are played by actors Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson and they look like they are just having the best time ever.

This is a silly silly movie and i recommend that you don't watch it alone. It's also best if you have watched Lethal Weapon first since i think that's the movie the parody is based on. Even though this is no Oscar contender i love it too death. It's great.

TL;DR

Great parody-movie. Samuel L. Jackson is always great. Silly jokes, great fun with friends. Just don't put it on and think it's going to be The Shawshank Redemption. It's also under 90 minutes so it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

My question for you:
What parody-movie do you really love?
Do we need another parody-movie?

Game: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – My opinion

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is set in a dystopian year 2007, where the world i suffering the aftermath of a nuclear war. It's made to look like a VHS movie from the 80's and they nail the look. Since it's a DLC for Far Cry 3 everything works like Far Cry 3(not surprisingly) and it still works very good.

The game has it's outposts,quests,side-quests and so on. Even though the map is smaller in size than the one in Far Cry 3 it's way more fun. I may be biased because i grew up in the 90's but the humor and the whole 80's setting just hits me in a very good way. A lot of neon, dialog like taken out of an 80's action-movie, fantastic music and one-liners everywhere. The main character is played by Michael Biehn(The Terminator, The Abyss, Aliens) also helps the 80'factor in a big way.

You control Rex «Power» Colt, an American cybernetic super-soldier. You are traveling to an island to investigate Colonel Sloan, who has gone rouge. Even this plot sounds like an 80's action-movie in the best way. The story is more than enough to keep me playing, because you never know what your next mission will be. The only thing I feel could be better is the level-up system. In Far Cry 3 you get level(points) and choose yourself what you want of skill. In Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon you level up and get your skill automatically. It's not a huge thing. The game is still really fun. I have played through it multiple times and I love it, each time.

TL;DR

Everything with this works. The story, every one-liner, the acting, the characters, every reference. It's cheesy, it's fun, it's everything you love about the 80's. It might be short but it's damn sweet. The music is fantastic. If you like the 80's, first person shooters or Far Cry 3 i highly recommend that you play this.

My question for you:
Do you wannt a Blood Dragon 2?

Movie: Police Story 2013 – My opinion

A man looking for the release of a long-time prisoner take a police officer, his daughter, and a group of strangers hostage.

This is another reboot of the Police Story series. Jackie Chan is again playing another character than in the other Police Story movies. This time he playes Detective Zhong Wen. While i don't think he is as good as he was in New Police Story, he's still very good. Again they let him show/act out big emotions and he really excel at it. He's so much more than an action-comedy actor.

The story, while not as hardhitting on me as the one in New Police Story, it is very good. It has a little darker feel to it. It starts slow but it's worth sitting through. There is one particular fight in the movie i want to point out. It was intense, it made me gain hope and lose hope several times during the fight. That's not only because it's a good fight. The stakes, the environment, the setting and the build-up made it all powerful. It was great.

TL;DR

Great movie with a good story. Jackie Chan still knows how to act. Good supporting cast. It has more story and less action. They talk Mandarin this time. A good entry in the Police Story Series.

My question for you:
Is Jackie Chan getting to old?
Do you want another Police Story movie?

Game: Far Cry 4 – My opinion

Welcome to Kyrat everyone, it is beautiful. I really like the look of this world. In my opinion it looks better and is more interesting than the world of Far Cry 3.You are going to see me mentioning Far Cry 3 a lot in this post because a lot of Far Cry 4 is like Far Cry 3. You got the same healing-system as in Far Cry 3. Outposts/Camps work the same way as in Far Cry 3. Takedowns are the same as in Far Cry 3. Everything they have taken from Far Cry 3 works great, but i would have liked a little more change. The towers from Far Cry 3 are also back. This i really don't like. I'm so tired of climbing towers. Someone really needs to find a better way to unlock/discover the world than towers. A lot of games use you climbing towers today and someone need to break that mold. Anyway, the game feels very much like Far Cry 3.

The game is full of optional quests and activities and a lot of them good although after 8 . 10 hours of them you feel like there could really be a little more variation. They also have a crafting-system in place that is good enough. This means that you need to hunt wildlife for crafting materials and some of them can give you a little challenge.

The story starts with you, as Ajay Ghale, coming to Kyrat to scatter your mothers ashes. The bus you are on gets attacked by the royal army and you meet Pagan Min, our villain. He shows you early that he's quite insane and not afraid of doing what is necessary. You escape with the help of Sabal, a commander in the golden path, a rebel movement established by your father. The start feels a little weird too me but i can't really put my finger on why(maybe because i have seen the start before. It has been shown at press events). The story is good enough to keep me playing. I can also say that the ending is better than the ending to Far Cry 3 which i felt killed the whole Far Cry 3 experience for me. I got through Far Cry 4 in 18 hours and 30 minutes, but that was with doing a lot of sidequests so i don't really know how long it is from start to finish in a straight line. There are some stealth missions in this game and they are really well done. The music fits the world very good. The one thing that really slows the game to much in my opinion are some of the weird spirit-sections.

Let's talk about the co-op. You can bring a friend with you into Kyrat to tear shit up with you. The problem is that you can't do campaign missions. Basically you can't do anything that matters. The co-op feels useless and it pisses me off. I love co-op, i love experiencing good story and games with my friends. I don't get any of that in this. It feels like it's put in there just so they can say «we have co-op». Another thing i really want/wanted out of this is Blood Dragon 2. I loved the first one and i really really really want a new one. I know they said that it's not coming but I'm keeping my hopes up.

TL;DR

I have to admit i had a lot of fun in Kyrat. There are more good things than bad. The world is amazing and there are some good characters in there(some bad too). There is an ok amount of weapons, a good story and a great feel to the game, even though it feels like Far Cry 3. Do not buy this just to play it co-op with a friend, you can't advance story in co-op. Those damn towers are back an i dislike them. All in all a good game but feels like Far Cry 3. Now, if we could get Blood Dragon 2.

My questions for you:
What do you think of the «take over towers» mechanic?
After the year Ubisoft had in 2014, will you keep buying their games?
Do you want Blood Dragon 2?

Movie: Kingsman: The Secret Service – My opinion

A spy organization recruits a streetkid into the agency's competitive training program just as a tech-genius threatens the world. This is the simple plotline of the movie and it sounds like a lot of other new spy movies. The big difference is that this is actually good.

Just so you know, i have not read the comic this movie is based on. Luckily for us they got Matthew Vaughn directing it. If you don't know who Matthew Vaughn is he's the director of X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass and Stardust with both X-men and Kick-Ass coming from comics so he really knows how to make the transition from comic too the silver screen. What makes this movie stick out from the rest is it's good characters and very very good execution of the idea. The fun parts are funny, the action-parts have proper good action, the British agent parts are very British and good. Another thing this movie got too help it is a stellar cast in Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson, who are all great in it.

This is a love-letter to the old British spy-genre with it's action, fun, class and glorious gadgets. I want to emphasize the fun part because we are in an era where everything either goes for the stupid funny way or the gritty and dark as possible way and hat's just another thing that makes this movie shine through. This really found the sweetspot between fun and action. The look of the movie is also great, some of the most beautiful weird effects i have seen in a long time. Right now, when i sit here writing, i can't think of one bad thing about it. It's just a very good time at the movies. I loved it.

TL;DR

Very British spy movie in the right way. Great action and a good story with great actors and great characters. Some sweet gadgets and i love me some gadgets. I also didn't find any dull points in the movie. I never got bored. If you are on the fence about seeing this movie just go watch it. It's a damn good time at the cinema.

My question for you:
Do you feel like this is a good addition in the spy genre or does it feel tacked on?
Any parts of it you didn't like and why?
