First of, I'm
sorry for the lack of posts on my blog lately but real life stuff
came up and i had to deal with that. Also, this game has taken up
some of my time. Thank you for your patience.
Finally Rocksteady is back
to finish of their fantastic Arkham-series so let's check out how
their latest game hold up.
It's one year after the
events of Arkham City and the death of the Joker. On Halloween night
Scarecrow threatens Gotham city with his new and more powerful toxin.
He has also planted bombs all over Gotham and forced an evacuation of
the city's six million civilians. The only one left in Gotham is the
Police, the criminals and Batman.
As a character Batman is
still Batman. He sounds like Batman and he talks like Batman. He has
a little more on his mind after the death of the Joker but he's still
the Batman you know. It's really great to hear Kevin Conroy as Batman
again. If you don't know he did the voice for Batman in Batman: The
Animated Series and in both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham
City. He did not do Batman: Origins so it's really good to have him
back. Batman is of course aided by police commissioner James Gordon
(voiced by Jonathan Banks who is known for his work on Horrible
Bosses 2, Identity Theft, Breaking Bad(TV-Show)) and Gordon's
daughter Barbara aka Oracle (voiced by Ashley Greene who is known for
her work on Urge, Burying the Ex, Twilight). Through side-missions
you will also meet characters like Robin (voiced by Matthew Mercer
who is known for his work on games like Dead or Alive 5, Infamous:
Second Son, Mortal Kombat), Nightwing (voiced by Scott Porter who is
known for his work on The To Do List, Prom Night, Dear John) and
Catwoman (voiced by Grey DeLisle who is known for her work on games
like Mortal Kombat X, Destiny, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon ). Both James
and Barbara Gordon is great, they add to the story and gives Batman
someone to talk to at occasion. It's great to see Robin and Nightwing
again but they are more there to tell you what to do in a
side-mission. They do help you fight and that's great but they feel
like they are just there for one purpose. Batman does have some nice
conversations with Catwoman. They are kind of building on the special
relationship between Batman and Catwoman and it works very well. You
will also get a helping hand from both Alfred Pennyworth and Lucius
Fox. But anywhere Batman is there are going to be some villains and
this time we meet some great ones. We get to meet Penguin (voiced by
Nolan North who is known for his work on games like the Assassins
Creed series, Dota 2, Uncharted series ), Two-Face (voiced by Troy
Baker who is known for his work on games like Far Cry 4, Call of
Duty: Advanced Warfighter, The Last of Us), Harley Quinn (voiced by
Tara Strong who is known for her work on games like Mortal Kombat X,
Guild Wars 2, Lollipop Chainsaw), The Riddler (voiced by Wally
Wingert who is know for his work on games like Command & Conquer:
Renegade, Dragon Age: Origins, Star Wars: Starfighter) and of course
Scarecrow (voiced by John Noble who is known for his work on The Lord
of The Rings: The Return of The King, Sleepy Hollow(TV-Series),
Fringe(TV-Series) ) just to mention a few. Most of these are also
side-mission based. They all play their part great but some may feel
a little like filler. The Riddler stands out somewhat since he will
talk a lot to you throughout the game. This comes as no surprise
since he did this in the other Arkham games too, and yes, he still
wants you to find green questionmarks all over the city. The one of
them that really stands out is Scarecrow. You feel like he really
could go toe to toe with Batman. Fantastic voice acting helps to make
him as scary as he's suppose to be. He may not be as good as the
iconic Joker but he's not far from it. The last one i want to bring
up is of course the Arkham Knight. This character was made
specifically for the game by Rocksteady, DC Comics, comic-book writer
Geoff Johns and DC co-publisher and comic artist Jim Lee. The Arkham
Knight is described as a militarized version of Batman. He's an okay
villain. I must admit i was hoping for something better but it could
be a lot worse.
The story of the game is
good, just like the others in the series. They have also managed to
make the side-missions interesting enough to make you wanna do them.
A lot of games drop the ball on that one. It's a little to
predictable at times but it's still a great experience. One thing
they did really good was to give us something more to think about
than just punching. It's a little more inside the mind sort of, as
you might expect knowing some of the villains. You got your fighting
and counter systems from earlier game only made better. You also get
the stealth-sections. The side-missions are good for the most part.
Some people says that this is the best of the games in the Arkham
Series but in my opinion I think Arkham City is better. To sum up,
the story is great but a little to predictable.
As Batman you also get
gadgets. You get your batarangs, line-launcher, explosive gel and so
on. All the gadgets feel great to use, nothing bad there. You also
get points each time you do something, like a side-mission for
instance, which you use to level up you suit, batmobil or gadgets.
The new thing that people are split on is the batmobile. Some really
hate it. I have also read that some mean that the batmobile is to
much in the game. I have to say that i mean that the batmobile is
awesome. Yes, it may be used a little to much but not so much that
you will hate it. The reason that i really like it is that it give
the game a new feel. Some of us have played the three Arkham games
before this so not having to do the same thing again is great. It's
fantastic. I'm 95% finished with the whole game(including
side-missions(I'm missing some riddler trophies)) after 26 hours. I'm
not really sure how long the main story is but i would estimate that
it's probably around 7 – 9 hours. I'm not sure about that so if
your really wondering about that you might want to try to Google it.
I played this game on the
PC. Most of you know of the problems with the game. Yes i had
problems with the game. Insane fps drops, which is kinda weird
because i have a GTX 970. I know they have fixed some issues but it's
not fully fixed. So if you are thinking about playing it on PC i
would recommend that you wait until you hear that they have fixed it.
It is a really good game and i recommend that everyone play it but as
i said, if you are going to play it on PC, wait a little while.
TL;DR
A really great game with a
great story, still has problems on PC but it's being worked on, a
little predictable, batmobile is awesome, fantastic music, great
villains, great voice-actors, I recommend this for everyone.
My question for you:
Thinking of the problems on the PC version, does it make you say that
you will never buy it or are you OK with waiting?
Does this make you rethink preordering games?
