My top 10 movies of 2014

This is my list of my top 10 movies of 2014. You will probably feel like some movies are missing and that is probably because i have not watched them(like Interstellar) or i didn't like them. It's my list so it's my choice. Here are my top 10 movies of 2014,

10. The Expendables 3
The old guys are back. Let me just start of by saying that i love the 80's and 90's action genre. Yes it's stupid but sometimes you really just want stupid. I like the first Expendables movie and the second one was not as good but still great. Mindless and fun. These movies gives you just what you think, action and one-liners. Newcomers this time is Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford. Mel Gibson is awesome no matter how you feel about him as a person. The main problem of this movie is that it focuses on some younger people in the story instead of the real expendables. I paid too see the old guys do it like they used too. But it is still a straight forward descent action film, and it never tries to be anything else.

9. X-Men: Days of Future Past
The X-Men are back in this huge movie with a jaw dropping cast. Bryan Singer is also back for the first time since X-Men 2. This is also a kinda sequel to both X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class which sounds kind of weird. As most people know, this is a time travel story so it works(and if you don't like time travel you should watch something else i guess). Hugh Jackman is back again as Wolverine, big as ever. McAvoy, Fassbender, Stewart and McKellen is also back to show us what acting is about again. Even Peter Dinklage is in this movie. The biggest problem i have with this movie, and the reason it is not higher on my list, is that i feel like we have heard the story before. The whole people are afraid of mutants and try to find ways to control them/kill them/tag them. I was really hoping for a new take on the X-Men but this story is the same as before just put in a different time.

8. How to Train Your Dragon 2
Yes this is an animated film, so what. It's a damn good animated film. There are dragons, fire, adventure, and feels. Oh the feels. It is beautifully animated with impressive particle effects and a stunning world it all is set in. The big problem with a lot of movies like this is getting the adventure and amazement out of the movie after seeing much of it in the first movie. This movie achieves this perfectly. Easily the best animated movie of 2014 and an exiting and fun adventure to watch.

7. 22 Jump Street
Earlier the old guys were back. Now the young guys are back. After the success of 21 Jump Street Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back in this awesome flick. First thing first, Peter Stormare is in this movie and that is kind of an auto-win. Never the less the boys are as funny as ever. I'm still impressed of Channing's capability's as a comedic actor, and Jonah Hill's kinda awkward humor that is somehow still enjoyable(I don't really like awkward humor). The movie is also great at poking fun that it is a sequel. I really didn't think they could pull it off again but they did. It was action-comedy done right.

6. The Raid 2
First of all, if you haven't seen The Raid: Redemption you need to go do that. It's an incredible film that show's us how strong action can be if done right. So the sequel takes place only moments after the first one ends. Rama(the main character) have to step up to the plate again. Intense action scenes, the best hand to hand combat you have ever seen and a story you get invested in. Can you really ask for more in an action film. I have to say though that this is movie is Indonesian though the director is from Wales. The only thing I think is kinda bad is the run time. The first one lasted for 101 min. While these lasts for 150 min. I feel it's kinda long but it is worth the watch, every minute of it.

5. Godzilla
Godzilla is back to make us forget his 1998 performance and i feel like he succeeds in doing this. This movie has a much more real feel to it and when Godzilla come on the screen you are really impressed with him. Huge monster, great destruction. The movie suffers a little from bland characters but i did not go to a Godzilla movie to watch the characters, i came for Godzilla. The movie is also kind enough to give a little back story for the people who are not familiar with the Godzilla story. Beautifully shoot, amazing visuals, great movie.

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The first Captain America movie was ok. It was not great and if you put it up against the other Marvel movies, like Thor and Iron man, it feels a little out of place. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier they showed us his place in the Marvel universe. The movie feels a little more like a Thriller than a standard popcorn flick at times and it is for the better. Captain is more about what is right and not blindly following orders, as he may have done in the past. You also feel like this movie was intended for a little more grown up audience too, not just for the teen/tween fanboy. Although it is a little long with it's 136 min run time it's still a solid movie and a must watch for superhero fans.

3. Edge of Tomorrow
I was so ready to hate this movie. The trailer looked stupid, i felt that the movies hook was already used good enough in other movies and so on. First things first, this movie is actually great. The action is great, Tom Cruise is great, Emily Blunt is great. It has fun moments, weird moments and great moments. The suits the have on is great. Anyway, everything evolve around Tom Cruise's character starts his day over every time he dies, and Emily Blunt's character knows something about it. I can't go into much more detail without going into spoilers and i won't do that. Just watch it if you like sci-fi action. It's a really good movie and i love it.

2. John Wick
Full disclosure, I love Keanu Reeves. I think he's better than a lot of people give him credit for. Look at movies like Speed, Point Break, Bill & Ted, The Devil's Advocate, Constantine and The Matrix. He's back in John Wick as the title character and he is glorious. He play's a retired hitman and someone kills his dog. You don't kill a hitman's dog. So he is pissed and very good at killing. Very good action, very nice shot, extremely good movie. Just don't go into it expecting something with a lot of crazy twist's. This kinda falls in the same category as the equalizer and Taken. Straight up action at it's best.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy
This was a nobrainer for me. First of all it is good too see some new characters in a Marvel movie and not just sequels. Chris Pratt plays Star-lord, a human kidnapped by aliens when he was a child and now, 26 years later he travels the galaxy trying to get rich and so the complications come. The entire cast is great with Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista. Perfect for their roles. It's a fun action-adventure that shows what you can do if you stick together. The movie also looks amazing. Good writing, good action, funny characters with chemistry and all over a fantastic movie.
